Chapter 14 Daddy Jacob

Jacob met Caleb in the hallway after saying good night to Blaine.

“I just got a phone call from Mark. His boy left him and he’s down. He wanted to know if we had an opening for him, but I told him I’d have to talk to you,” Caleb said.

“I wish we could trade him for Brock. Let’s give it a day and see if any of the daddies leave or if another boy calls in late to join us. I’m so sorry he’s alone at Christmas.” Jacob knew Mark from high school and all three hung out together. He was a brilliant man even back in high school. He’d attended Harvard, received a law degree, and practiced in Orange County.

“He could join us and not take part in the mixer activities. He’s all alone,” Caleb added.

“Call him and tell him the conditions. If he’s okay with it, we have another bedroom for him on the second floor. He’s welcome to spend Christmas with us.”

“I’ll send him a text.”

“Thanks.”

They walked up the stairs to the fourth floor, where his holiday double suite was. One side was reserved for Caleb and the other side was his. He went to his side and got into his nightclothes.

As soon as he stuck his phone onto the charger pad on the end table, it rang. Who the hell is calling at midnight? He swiped his phone to see who was calling, and Andrew’s face covered the screen. What does he want? Did we lose a boy or a daddy?

“Andrew, is there a problem?”

“There is a big problem named Miguel. He’s covered in snow and says he has no place to stay.”

“You’re fucking kidding me. At this hour?”

“Do you want me to send him away without transportation in the snow? As much as I dislike the little fellow, he needs to be inside under warm covers,” Andrew informed him as if it were a command.

“That puts me in a bad position. I really don’t want him here. Where is he now?”

“He’s in the foyer. Tia make him hot chocolate while he awaits your decision.”

“I’ll be down in a few.”

The last damn thing he wanted to do was see Miguel here. He said he was moving to San Francisco. What does he want from me after a year of dead silence? I want nothing to do with him. Go away. Why come here of all places?

He sent a text to Caleb.

Jacob: Miguel is downstairs in my fucking foyer. So damn pissed.

Caleb: That’s fucked up.

Jacob changed into a pair of jeans and a cobalt blue sweater. He rushed down the stairs to the foyer, where he saw Miguel sitting on the bench with dripping wet hair. He was bundled up in a new Christmas throw blanket from the hallway closet. Andrew had hung his wet jacket and the red scarf Jacob had bought him last Christmas on the wall-mounted coat rack. Jacob figured he would have thrown everything he had given him out, but he probably couldn’t afford to.
